ICF Sponsors the Japanese Seasons in the Republic of Tatarstan
Moscow, Russia – International Chodiev Foundation is proud to sponsor the festival of the Japanese culture, Japanese Seasons in the Republic of Tatarstan, held from 11 to 13 May 2023 as part of the Year of National Cultures and Traditions in the Republic of Tatarstan.
One of the highlights of the festival was the screening of the film ‘Kubota’s Kimonos: A History on Silk’, created and directed by Radik Kudoyarov with the support of the ICF in 2020. In 2021, the documentary was named Best Film in the Design and Fashion category at the Master of Art international documentary film festival, and was screened at the Brooklyn Film Festival. The film tells the story of the unique collection of kimonos by the Japanese master Itchiku Kubota, which was preserved for Japan by the ICF’s founder, Dr Chodiev.
Another notable event of the festival was a meeting with Alexander Dolin, the Professor of the Higher School of Economics. Mr Dolin is the author of a unique compilation of Japanese poetry, an eight volume translation of about 500 works of Japanese poems, from the 6th to 20th centuries.
In addition, Japanese Seasons included the exhibition of works by sumi-e artist Oleg Usov, a meeting of haikai poetry lovers, kendo demonstrations, and other master classes.
‘I would like to note that this new programme, created with the support of the ICF, is a testament to friendship between two countries which stands the test of times,’ said Damir Natfullin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan.
“Today we are happy to witness the friendship between Japan and Russia, which is very significant for us,” said Mr Toyohisa Kozuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia.
Preserving cultural ties between Russia and Japan is one of the key priorities of the International Chodiev Foundation. For more than 25 years, the Foundation has been popularizing Japanese culture in Russia and Russian culture in Japan. ICF has sponsored regular large-scale cultural exchange events between two countries. In 2020, for his contribution to preserving cultural and economic ties between Japan and Russia, Dr Chodiev was awarded one of Japan’s highest state awards – the Order of the Rising Sun.
