Opening of the exhibition ‘Heaven on Earth. Icons by Hiroko Kozuki’
Moscow, Russia – Today, the exhibition ‘Heaven on Earth. Icons by Hiroko Kozuki’ opens at the Patriarchal Museum of Church Art of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Moscow.
The exhibition is supported by the International Chodiev Foundation (ICF) and the Mikhail Abramov Society for the Preservation and Popularization of Russian Culture.
Hiroko Kozuki is an art historian, artist and the wife of the former Ambassador of Japan to the Russian Federation, Mr Toyohisa Kozuki. Ms. Kozuki’s work is created in the traditions of Russian icon painting, which she has been studying for more than a quarter of a century. Hiroko Kozuki has lived in Russia for more than 15 years and painted her first icon in 1999. Several of her works are showcased in the Orthodox monasteries and churches across the country.
‘It is a great honour for me to present this exhibition of my works in Moscow,’ says Ms. Kozuki. ‘Looking at these icons, I warmly recall my years living in this country. I hope to continue creating my work, inspired by beautiful Russian icons…’
The exhibition will run until 25 May 2025.
The previous exhibition of Ms. Kozuki’s works, ‘Treasures of the Divine World: Japanese Icons of Hiroko Kozuki’, was held with the support of the ICF last October at the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (IOPS) in Moscow.
Preserving cultural ties between Russia and Japan is one of the key priorities of the International Chodiev Foundation. In 2020, for his contribution to preserving cultural and economic ties between two countries, ICF Founder, Dr Chodiev, was awarded one of Japan’s highest state awards – the Order of the Rising Sun.
