Exhibition Update: Itchiku Kubota Museum Showcases ‘With the Sunset in Siberia’

9 June 2025

Kawaguchi, Japan – The International Chodiev Foundation (ICF) and the Itchiku Kubota Museum are delighted to unveil a new and captivating exhibition titled ‘With the Sunset in Siberia’.

The exhibition features 26 remarkable works by the revered Japanese artist, including one of his most significant creations, ‘San’. This work holds profound personal significance for Itchiku Kubota, as it embodies the essence of a Siberian sunset – the sole source of comfort and hope during his dreary days in a prisoner of war camp during the WW2.

In addition to ‘San’, the exhibition presents five consecutive works from the ‘Symphony of Light’ collection, which showcases Kubota’s extraordinary mastery of the ancient tsujigahana dyeing technique.

Museum visitors now have the opportunity to gain deeper insights into Kubota’s creative process and his innovative interpretations of traditional tsujigahana techniques. The exhibition also delves into the artist’s philosophical explorations of nature and beauty, offering a comprehensive understanding of his artistic vision.
