Kazakh tycoon funds social projects in central Uzbekistan

A delegation led by a Kazakh businessman of Uzbek origin, [billionaire] Fattoh Shodiyev, arrived in [Uzbekistan’s central] Syrdarya Region on 9 April 2019. Regional Governor Gafurjon Mirzayev met the delegation, the press service of the regional governor’s office has reported.

It was noted that Fattoh Shodiyev was intending to allocate from the funds of a special foundation called the International Chodiev Foundation 40bn soms [nearly 5m dollars] as a donation to improve the living standards of the people living in the region and for construction and public services.

Nearly 30bn soms out of the planned 40bn soms were transferred to a special account opened in Syrdarya Region.

It was reported that the funds would be channelled into measures implemented as part of the “Obod Qishloq” [“Prosperous Village”] project which involves improvement of public services in the region’s remote villages, installation of engineering and communications systems and reconstruction of social facilities, roads and water supply systems.

Part of the funds will be channelled, at the initiative of the president [President Shavkat Mirziyoyev], into the construction of the Khovos City complex constructed in Khovos District.

We shall recall that Fattoh Shodiyev began his career in Syrdarya Region, the report said.
