London-based Uzbek oligarch to donate over $4.7 million for social projects in Syrdaria region

The delegation of the International Chodiev Foundation, set up by London-based Uzbek oligarch with Belgian citizenship, visited Gulistan, Syrdarya region.

At the meeting with Syrdarya region governor Gafurzhon Mirzaev, Chodiev said he made the decision to provide more than $4.7 million for development of the region in order to improve living standards of people.

The next day after the meeting a part of the sum was already transferred to the special account in the region.

The donation will be used to improve infrastructure of remote villages, major repair of social facilities, roads, water supply and drainage networks.

A part of the sum will be used for construction of the Xovos City, which is erected at the initiative of the President.

Chodiev was born in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan. With Alexander Mashkevich and Alijan Ibragimov, is part of the “Trio,” a group of Central Asian businessmen who made their fortune through deals in minerals, oil, gas, and banking in Kazakhstan. Chodiev is currently ranked #1116 on the Forbes list of billionaires.
