ICF joins a humanitarian aid programme to support people affected by flooding in Sirdarya region
On 1 May, due to strong winds and heavy rainfall, a Sardoba dam wall, located in Sirdarya region of Uzbekistan, had partially collapsed. This caused devastating flooding. Tens of thousands of locals were evacuated and housed in schools, colleges and office buildings.
The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan launched a humanitarian aid programme to support the local people affected by this disaster. In these challenging times, when the vulnerable population still face the risk and negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, people of Sirdarya region are also facing the terrible consequences of flooding. Like never before, solidarity and timely support are of fundamental importance. The International Chodiev Foundation joins the government’s efforts – we have promptly prepared a new batch of humanitarian aid. The trucks of essential food supplies have been sent to the Sirdarya region.
