‘Kimono’: an essay by a Russian award-winning journalist Mikhail Yefimov

What is kimono and what is its history? Whilst everyone knows what is a kimono, many might find it interesting to learn more about the history of this symbol of the Japanese culture.

Mikhail Yefimov, a Russian award-winning journalist and a specialist on Japan, has recently published an essay on this subject, titled ‘Kimono’. The essay includes photos from Mikhail’s personal archive and interesting observations gathered during his time as Bureau Chief of Russian ‘Novosti’ press agency in Japan.

In this essay, Mikhail also discusses the contribution of the International Chodiev Foundation (ICF), and particularly its founder, Dr Patokh Chodiev, to the development of Russo-Japanese relations and preservation of the unique collection of kimono created by Japanese textile artist Itchiku Kubota.

The essay in Russian can be found on the website of the ‘Russia-Japan Society’: https://russiajapansociety.ru/?p=21432#more-21432
